Snowcat Skiing at its Finest – Colorado Style
Backcountry Tours available

Snowcat skiing and riding with Steamboat Powdercats is a unique experience, one that may reward you with the best, on snow day, of your life. Though Mother Nature holds the cards to how powder-rich your day will be, we’ve put together a system of professional backcountry guides, plush snowcats and a dialed up infrastructure that should provide you with an excellent day in the Colorado backcountry.

Beyond snowcat skiing, we offer human powered Backcountry Tours where we spltboard or ski tour with you up into the terrain. These tours are custom and private to your group only.

We are very fortunate to call Buffalo Pass our home base. Conveniently located just 25 minutes from downtown Steamboat Springs and the Steamboat Ski Area, Buffalo Pass is known as Colorado’s deepest annual snowpack and has a multitude of north, south, east and west facing zones. Combine this with the famous Champagne Powder® that we are blessed with here in Northwest Colorado and we couldn’t have asked for a better location to offer up the Steamboat Powdercats experience.

Our Best Season Ever? How we will book the 2024 Season.

In this blog post, we highlight some of the reasons why the 2022/23 Season may go down as our BEST SEASON EVER! We also lay out how we will be booking trips for next winter by loading our "internal calendar" first, then booking repeat guests from this year, then others who have shown interest, then open up our calendar for online bookings. We hope to have this done by June 15th.

Winter Has Arrived!

This past Saturday the snow machine turned on for us here in Colorado and it really hasn't stopped since.  The Steamboat Ski Area reported its first recordable snow of the season on Sunday, October 23, with 3-inches.  On Monday, another 9-inches dropped and it's snowed every day since. Now that's the way to get this winter going. This now culminates our Powder Prediction Contest and we have a winner who picked the exact amount and date.  Of the 100+ predictions we received from you, only 5 picked October 23rd, and only 1 person picked 3 inches.

Powder Prediction Contest

Predict the first snow in Steamboat and win a free day with Steamboat Powdercats for the upcoming season. Now that temperatures are cooling off in the Yampa Valley and we tip toward fall, it is really starting to feel like FACE SHOTS and FRESHIES are coming. Soon enough, our aspen, oak and cottonwood trees will all have changed to red, orange and yellow, daily frost will appear in the mornings and then WHAM a cold front will move in and drop the season’s first layer of white gold.
